After

This was supposed to be a before and after post. But, I can't find the before photo. Arrrrrrgh!

So here is the after of my pretty vanity stool. Someday I'll show you a picture of the vanity itself, but for now, just the stool.

The vanity was part of a bedroom set in our home when I was growing up. My sister has the rest of the set ~ a headboard, dresser, and wardrobe (or should I call it a small armoire?). When we sold Mom's house, I asked for the vanity only since I didn't have room for the whole set.

I've never recovered anything, and I had some anxiety about this ~ don't laugh, those of you who do this all the time. Part of my problem was that I had to tune out the voice of perfectionism that says, "You know you won't do it perfectly, so don't even try."

First, I removed the seat from the legs, and then the old fabric my sister had used to recover it years ago. I thought I could probably use the original padding, but, oh boy, was I wrong! I can only describe it as being kind of like the coco liners used in hanging flower baskets and window boxes. But, picture it as being old...like about 60 years old...and dry and dusty and just falling apart.

Next picture that you're working in your guest bedroom when you discover this dusty mess. How will you ever get this messy, falling-apart stuff to a garbage can without tracking it all the way to the back door because any garbage cans that were near were the small type used in bedrooms, and the stuff won't fit in it.

What? You didn't want all those details? OK. But just to let you know, I did finally get it out to the garbage can.

Then I had to go to JoAnn's to get some foam for the padding. And here's a tip for you. Use an electric knife to cut the foam. I put a self-healing cutting mat underneath and cut away. Really slick!

Next I cut the fabric, leaving a few extra inches all around, enough so I could fold the edges under and staple them. I had to work a bit with the corners to get them to look nice. Then hubby helped me attach the beautiful, newly recovered seat back on to the legs.

"Is it perfect?" you ask. Yes, it's perfect enough.

Blessings,
Wanita

It's so pretty, Wanita. Love the fabric you chose, too. I have a project just like hours that needs doing. Think I'll go pull it out. It takes me a few days looking at before I can get to us.

Smiles,
Lea

I would say that it is perfect! Good job, Wanita! Now come down here and do this chair for me!! I have never done anything like that either.

I love the fabric you chose. You did a great job!

You are funny sometimes. I laughed at your cocoa fiber description. So true of the old stuff. I know cause I've done it before. Kinda gross isn't it?

Love the new fabric and you did an awesome job. I don't see any flaws.
